Thane's commercial township — originally a post-Partition resettlement colony
Ulhasnagar was established as a resettlement colony for Sindhi refugees after the 1947 Partition and retains a strong trading and entrepreneurial character. It sits on the Central Railway line and is one of the MMR's most densely built municipalities. While primarily known for commerce and small manufacturing, residential activity has been picking up with redevelopment projects.
